The Durango Police Department responded to an active shooting Tuesday in the 1300 block of Roosa Avenue on the Animas River Trail between the Schneider Skate Park and the pickleball courts.
A man who appeared to be in his 30s was shot, and one person was arrested, said Amanda Garrison, spokeswoman with the Durango Police Department.
The shooting was reported at 1:17 p.m. near the Durango Skate Park. Officers arrived on scene and began lifesaving measures.
At 1:27 p.m., Durango Fire Protection District arrived and loaded the victim into an ambulance. At 1:36 p.m. he was taken to Mercy Hospital.
Another person attempted to flee the scene but was stopped and put into handcuffs by law enforcement around 1:35 p.m. It is unclear whether the other individual was an accomplice or a witness.
“There are no known outstanding threats to the public at this time,” Garrison said about 1:40 p.m. in a text message to The Durango Herald.
Police asked the public to avoid the area while officers investigate.
