Ignacio School District canceled classes on Wednesday as a result of flooded roads and severe weather conditions, according to a morning announcement posted on its website.

The announcement said there was rain, ice, snow, mud and flooding in some areas of the school district in southeast La Plata County.

Superintendent Rocco Fuschetto said it rained most of the day Tuesday and snowed 3 to 4 inches Wednesday morning. Some ditches were washed out and county roads were under 6 to 8 inches of water, he said.

Ignacio School District will have to find a way to make up class hours as a result of today’s cancellation, he said. The school board will likely consider doing away with early release days on Wednesdays to make up the hours, he said.
