Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance will present Bill Lipe, Ph. D., and Mary Weahkee, assistant archaeologist for New Mexico.
In Lipe’s investigation, “How Many Turkeys Does it Take to Make a Blanket?” his study looks at how turkey feather blankets were made, how many feathers it took and how the feathers were obtained without killing a lot of turkeys just to get their feathers. Weahkee is a master at replicas using natural materials. The two will compare known archaeological examples of turkey feather blankets and modern replicas.
