Let’s all “do the right thing” and bag the tax on plastic and paper bags that the Durango City Council decided to impose on us. Vote against the bag tax ordinance in the coming election.

It’s up to each of us to “do the right thing” and vote against the unjust and probably unconstitutional grocery-bag tax ordinance that the council passed against the wants and wishes of the overwhelming majority of the people of Durango and La Plata County.

The somewhat likeable, unassuming City Council candidates that we elected a few months ago have transformed into arrogant politicians under the influence of the self-proclaimed “all-knowing” Mayor Dick White.

“Do the right thing” and vote against the actions of the “useful idiots” of the out-of-control environment mega-system that is ruining the nation as well as our local community.

If this ordinance survives the election, we can all expect many more attempts to rob us of even more of our smallest liberties.

“Do the right thing” and stop this creeping gradualism in its tracks. Hitler used some of these same tactics in Nazi Germany, and sadly, they worked. I’m certainly not calling these people Hitlers; some of them don’t even have very noticeable mustaches yet.

The feel-good bag-tax ordinance needs to be a thing of the past. To help in this effort, visit the website NoDurangoBagTax.com, and help these people defeat this ordinance.

The bag-taxers have started their campaign to let the vocal 4 percent minority override the wishes of the majority. “Do the right thing” and support the people working against the tax.
