Greg Alsum, with the city of Durango, uses a trackhoe on Tuesday to tear down the nearly 60-year-old A-frame building on Main Avenue across from Durango High School to make way for the new Chamber of Commerce building. The building was built in about 1960. For the past 22 years, La Plata Youth Services has occupied the building; it recently moved across the street into the former county manager’s house at La Plata County Fairgrounds.
