The Denver Post reported on Wednesday that they’re not giving up on the proposal – and hope to pursue it next year.
Sens. Faith Winter and Angela Williams told the newspaper they’re instead seeking a series of studies to determine how a state paid leave program can be created.
They say it could issue its first benefits in 2024.
Gov. Jared Polis voiced concerns on Monday about the financial viability of the legislation.
Republicans repeatedly questioned whether a $1 billion program would be sustainable.
Sponsors are modifying the bill to offer an independent financial analysis of a leave plan later this year.
