I’m not talking about the ones where you bump your head in a doorway or on the underside of the coffee table.

I’m talking about the ones where there’s a multimillion-dollar fireworks display in your head and everything goes black.

Well, I have. If you answered no, I’ve had enough to use your share.

I took one last winter and, while Earth is still in its proper rotation, ever since I’ve been reading like a wild man.

It’s as though something got jarred around up there and said, “Here, try this!”

I’ve been going to the library here in Ignacio. What a nice bunch of folks, even though the first time I went in they looked at me like they thought I’d mistaken it for the “feed, saddle and tack” store.

They’ve taken me under their wing and helped me find what I was looking for, and have even got some books for me that they didn’t have from somewhere else. Many thanks to those folks.

Try reading a book today; it’s good for your brain. I sure hope this next horse don’t drop his head and kick real high because this philosophizing is kind of fun.

Watch yore topknot …

Tom James was riding horses before he could walk. He currently hangs his hat in Ignacio. Reach him at [email protected]. The topknot, by the way, is the last knot tied on a pack saddle.
