The letter, “Remember the victims of 1776,” (Herald, April 22) certainly is not aging well. It identified British atrocities during the American Revolution, then appeared to indirectly smear alleged modern-day “perpetrators.”

The letter coincided with a recent moment when a 12-year-old asked her grandmother, “Did the president rape a 13-year-old?” The grandmother gave the appropriate response: “Go ask your mom.”

While such narratives continue to circulate around the president, supporters argue they have been disproven by reliable sources. The letter writer should know better, or else his TDS may well turn into FFA – and not Future Farmers of America.

It is also illuminating that, by publishing the letter, the Durango Herald risks becoming the print version of Bluesky.
