Paving begins Thursday on a 1.25-mile section of the new northbound lanes on the U.S. Highway 550 realignment project. The new asphalt begins at the end of the four-lane section of the highway north of County Road 302. Paving of the new northbound lanes between County Road 302 and County Road 220 will be completed in phases through the summer. Then crews will begin construction of the new southbound lanes. The work is being done by Colorado Department of Transportation, Lawrence Construction and Four Corners Materials. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
