Recently back from the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Lanny Barnes, left and twin sister Tracy Barnes work with Ignacio Middle School twin brothers, 12-year-old seventh-graders Lawrence, left, and Lewis Valdez, as they shoot rubber-band guns at soda cans after running laps around the basketball court. The Barnes spoke about the importance of hard work, dedication and sacrifice at an assembly where they emphasized the point that even those growing up in small communities can achieve great things. They are scheduled to talk at St. Columba School at 2:30 p.m. today and will be at the Boys & Girls Club breakfast/lunch fundraiser on April 4.
