The State Patrol had reported the fugitive on the loose Sunday afternoon near South Mineral Campground near Silverton, causing a lockdown of the area as authorities conducted a search.
According to authorities, campers were told to leave the area Sunday afternoon. Drivers were advised not to pick up hitchhikers.
Colorado State Patrol offered no further information Sunday evening, and a dispatcher with the agency said officials expected to update its Facebook page about the situation.
