75 years ago: The U.S. Army was seeking unmarried, 21- to 28-year-old men in Durango to apply for “highly paid” pilot jobs.

50 years ago: Durango Elks Lodge announced it would observe Flag Day by offering a special program, which included a presentation of the colors; singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner”; speeches by Mac H. Randall, Glen Chapman and Bob Atkins; and two songs by Mrs. B.J. Bautts.

25 years ago: A resident found a Denver Post newspaper machine that had washed up on the banks of the Animas River in the 600 block of Sawmill Road.
