50 years ago: Mahlon T. White purchased a 60,000-square-foot plot of land at 259 W. Ninth St., which was occupied by Herb Williams Lumber Co.

25 years ago: According to a La Plata County Sheriff’s Office report, a mule was loose in a yard in the 2200 block of County Road 500, and the animal control officer who responded told the owner to “keep his ass at home.”
