Located adjacent to the railroad roundhouse at Main Avenue and Fourth Street, Malone Iron Works was an important early provider of metal and foundry products for the railroad and mining industry. This photo depicts the company’s buildings around 1892, located where the Gaslight Twin Cinema parking lot is today. By the turn of the century, it was known as the Durango Foundry and Machine Co. It eventually became Telluride Iron Works. The 400 block of Main Avenue was abandoned as part of the Rio Grande Land redevelopment in the 1960s. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, [email protected] (Catalog Number: 91.34.2.12 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
