When a substitute driver ran the route in the wrong order, my first-grade daughter missed her stop.
She then got off with the last group of kids several miles from our house and proceeded to try and walk home in sub-freezing temperatures, crossing a busy road.
We were frantic but luckily everything turned out OK.
So yes, a better way is needed than relying on the memory of a bus driver who isn’t always there. We entrust the school districts with the education and safety of our children.
