Two years ago Bayfield had a Saturday state baseball game in Greeley postponed. The team returned to Bayfield for a Sunday graduation, and then drove all the way back to Greeley for a game early Monday morning. Treatment of our teams in state competition always has a hint that pairings and scheduling favor the Front Range.

I have a suggestion. Why don’t the Southwest Colorado schools join the New Mexico Activies Association? They probably would love to have our fees and competitions. Maybe we could work out a deal to be selective, participating only in certain sports like track? A trip to Albuquerque seems more palatable than to Denver.

Schools in eastern California participate in the Nevada association. Imagine being from a California school and bragging that you won the Nevada state championship. This may sound silly, but I think it is worth considering.

Some creative school administrator should think outside the box and research this possibility.
