Of course it’s foolish to think we can control a virus; just look at all the Americans killed and crippled each year by smallpox and polio.

Of course it’s foolish to trust doctors, nurses and hospitals; we all know they’re hoping we all get sick.

Of course we all die; I’m just hoping my 21-year-old daughter (a recent heart transplant recipient) dies later, not now.

And of course vaccines, masks, isolation and distancing don’t prevent sickness and death … except that they actually do.
