It is difficult to overstate the popularity of baseball in this region in the 1920s and 1930s. A review of newspaper items from the time period includes games between almost every local community, both large and small. Bayfield played Allison, Tiffany, Bondad, Sunnyside and Ignacio just within the immediate vicinity. More distant road trips would take the team to Durango, Hermosa, Silverton, Cortez and Dolores. They also played nearby New Mexico teams. These players are unidentified, though someone in Bayfield may have a record of their names. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org (Catalog Number: 10.05.436 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
