Michael Bennet is running for governor of Colorado against Phil Weiser. He has just announced he will not go through the traditional party caucus route to qualify for the June primary ballot. Instead, he has delivered enough signatures – 1,500 per congressional district – to qualify.

This is an expensive way to get on the ballot, typically costing $10 to $20 per signature gathered. It is usually the route taken only by candidates who feel they lack the name recognition among party voters. The hard core voters likely to attend these four-hour, ritual-laden caucuses are exactly the people a sitting U.S. senator should know well.

For Michael Bennet – our senator in Washington – to act as if he is lesser known than Colorado’s Attorney General is baffling. Perhaps it is because Phil Weiser has spent extensive time in every Colorado county, and Bennet knows it. In 2025, Weiser spent more than a week in Southwest Colorado alone, meeting with leaders in government, industry and everyday voters. Bennet flew in for a few quick meetings and two private fundraising events here in Durango.

Now Bennet has declined to attend an April Southwest Colorado forum he was invited to a month ago by our Indivisible organization. He has also requested that any future events not include both him and Weiser on the same stage.

Bennet fears Weiser. Keep that in mind when voting in the primary. Ballots arrive in June. Vote wisely – vote for Weiser.
