I drive a lot for work around Montezuma and La Plata counties, and lately I can’t help but notice how trashed our highways are getting – as in literal trash along the sides of the road.
What happened to the Adopt-a-Highway program? Yes, litter is an environmental problem. Duh. But it’s also embarrassing. When people drive through here and see trash scattered along the road, it doesn’t exactly make a great impression. This is our home. It shouldn’t look like a dumping ground.
Maybe the program still exists and just needs more participation. Maybe it needs to be revived. Either way, it seems like something worth bringing back.
