The city of Durango has declared June 2-3 as Durango Gun Violence Awareness Days.

The Wear Orange campaign was inspired by friends of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Chicago high school student killed by gunfire, whom decided to honor her life by wearing orange – the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. This year would have been Pendleton’s 21st birthday.

The event is sponsored by the Durango chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
