Volunteer shifts start Sunday and those who sign up will administer a three-question survey at trailheads in Durango to collect demographic information about trail users, such as gender, age and hometown; and trail-use data, such as trail location, activity, frequency and date of use.

The survey will be conducted at trail heads for: Horse Gulch, Animas Mountain, Overend Mountain Park, Twin Buttes, Skyline Trail, Lower Colorado Trail, Lower Hermosa Trail, Dry Fork, Sale Barn, Dalla Mountain Park, Coal Bank, Upper Hermosa and Molas.

The data will determine how many people use trails annually to evaluate the economic benefits of hiking, mountain biking, trail running, walking and other trail activities in Durango.

Volunteers must be 18 years old or older and provide their own transportation. Trails 2000 will provide snacks and beverages.
