The Newman Building, built in 1892 at corner of Eighth Street and Main Avenue, is a prime example of a reimagined Roman fortress. Durango’s building boom in the early 1890s made America’s fascination for world architecture dramatically visible.
Reynolds is an arts journalist, art historian and political cartoonist. After a career in academia, she switched to the for-profit world of newspaper journalism. In 1994, Reynolds and her late husband, David, moved to Durango, where she began freelancing for The Durango Herald and teaching occasionally at FLC.
