Fort Lewis College pitcher Victoria Johnson once again had a dominating performance, throwing a one-hit shutout in Saturday’s opening game as the Skyhawks split their doubleheader at Black Hills State.

The Skyhawks (7-20, 4-9 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) won the first game 2-0 but fell in the second 5-2.

It was Johnson’s fifth win of the season, as she struck out six batters in the process.

Angelique Elemen went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a home run in Game 1. Nikki Klepfer and Gianna Melaragno each had two hits, as Fort Lewis had nine hits as a team.

Fort Lewis got on the board when Elemen scored in the second inning off of Lauren Caldwell’s hit. Elemen then hit a home run in the sixth inning.

In Game 2, both of Fort Lewis’ runs came in the first inning, and Olivia Goldberg was awarded the loss in 4 1/3 innings in the circle.

Elemen and Missy Fundora scored the Skyhawks only runs, which were unearned for Black Hills State (5-14, 5-9 RMAC).

Black Hills scored two runs in the second inning and three more runs in the sixth.

Caldwell went 2-for-3 at the plate and was responsible for two of the Skyhawks’ four hits.

Fort Lewis will take on Black Hills oState nce again for another doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday.
