We have been discussing crazy stuff, like whether the sheriff is the last defense of the people against an encroaching, all-consuming federal government, whether the sheriff has the power to nullify unconstitutional laws, what does the Second Amendment really mean, will he take his oath to defend the U.S. and state constitutions over his party political leaders’ whims, etc. Does that disqualify Smith from being sheriff? Just wondering if Van Zee will place such high standards on his candidate as he does the sitting sheriff.
What is wrong with the residents of this country? When is vetting a candidate for office a bad thing? Maybe people should stop looking at just the parties and look at the people running. Smith is a very nice person, and I am sure he could run the sheriff’s department competently. Is that enough to get elected? Not in my book. Will he run the Sheriff’s Office as a constitutional sheriff? That is what I have to decide and what all of you should be asking as well. The U.S. Constitution is still the law of the land, even as abused and misunderstood as it is.
