The Gazette reports the lawsuit filed by the Security Water District and the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, owner of Venetucci Farm, looks to hold agencies and companies responsible for tainting the Widefield aquifer, which is saturated with toxic substances.
The toxins were used for decades in a firefighting foam at Peterson Air Force Base, as well as in many household nonstick items.
The water district seeks at least $14.2 million, while the Pikes Peak Community Foundation seeks nearly $3.2 million.
Air Force officials say they have no authority to reimburse for money spent.
