The Durango High School girls swim team made itself at home on a recent trip to the Western Slope, winning two meets on back-to-back days.

DHS took first at Delta on Jan. 23 and Glenwood Springs on Jan. 24.

In Glenwood Springs, Durango’s 200-medley relay team of Catherine Dellinger, Elli Earl, Anne Mummery and Hailey Warren finished first.

The Demons also swept the diving podium.

Caroline Tidwell took first with 160.5 points, Sarah Lawton was second and Elide Tidwell third.

“The divers showed some very strong performances, and I’m extremely happy of their sweep in both Delta and Glenwood,” DHS head coach Kathryn Ross said in an email to The Durango Herald.

Mummery took first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 3.99 seconds and was third in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.66 seconds.

Jocelyn Earl finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 59.87 seconds. Mira Joyner took second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.95.

Elli Earl was third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.21.

“Overall, we had some really strong performances,” Ross said. “It was a tough and long two days of traveling, but the girls stepped up to the challenge and swam strongly.”

The Demons will return to the Western Slope for their next meet – the Western Slope Open on Feb. 6-7 at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.

That will be Durango’s last competition before state.
