In addition to the oohs and aahs heard in the million-dollar dwellings in the 2018 Parade of Homes, there are some interesting options at the other end of the housing spectrum on this year’s tour, and they are both located in Bayfield.

One is a tiny home built by Bayfield High School students that is on display at Lewis True Value Mercantile, 311 Bayfield Center Drive. The other is a Habitat for Humanity home in Foxfire Farm at 818 Burnham Lane.

The BHS students are working on the tiny home while participating in the Trades in Training program sponsored by the Homebuilders Association of Southwest Colorado, which puts on the annual Parade of Homes.

This is the second year BHS construction students have worked on the tiny home, said Curtis Gillespie, an industrial arts teacher. The compact design includes a queen-size bed in a loft, bay window, aspen wood interiors and a veneer stone wall surrounding the electric fireplace.

The home was designed by students in last year’s classes. Students working on the project can earn pre-apprentice certifications to prepare them for work in the construction trades. The home will be sold in conjunction with the homebuilders association.
