An art gallery in Bayfield?

Yep. It’s not the first one, but with a two-year history, Studio Sellke has lasted longer than many. Owner Karrie Sellke recently relocated her business from Gem Village to a new in-town location.

Studio Sellke features the work of 41 artists, ranging from oil paintings to jewelry to handcrafted furniture and cutting boards.

Most of the works are by artists from La Plata and Archuleta counties, with an occasional piece from elsewhere in the Four Corners.

During a recent visit, several customers wandered in and out of the gallery, located in a building at the rear of Aspen Plaza that previously housed a clothing store.

Floral Expressions, a local florist, uses the rear space in the building.

“This location is so much better,” owner Sellke said. Although lots of drivers whizzed by her previous location, “they didn’t get off the highway,” she explained. Her new location benefits from having Mini Merc, the Pine Cone and Brenda’s Old West Cafe nearby.

New pieces come and go frequently, so she invites folks to stop by regularly to see what’s new.

Studio Sellke is located at 271 N. Mountain View Drive and can be reached at 884-0565.
