The Durango High School football players were presented a shining memento to their 2020 Class 3A state championship season this week. The Demons’ state championship rings were as bold as their play on the field during the COVID-19 pandemic shortened fall season.

The team’s logo is featured prominently on top of the ShadowCast band. On the side, there is a Durango football helmet with the players’ numbers and their names printed above it with “8-0” written to symbolize the team’s perfect record. The other side of the ring reads “Durango Demons” above a Colorado High School Activities Association flag and the year 2020. Inside, the team mottos “Be Ready” and “Family” are engraved below the players’ names.

DHS won the state championship in a 21-14 defeat of Roosevelt on Dec. 5 at the DeRose ThunderBowl Stadium in Pueblo. It was Durango’s first state victory since 1954 and first outright championship, as the 1954 team tied Lamar 7-7 for the Demons’ only other share of a title.
