Elliott edges Bayne for his third Nationwide win of 2014
JOLIET, Ill. – Chase Elliott held off Trevor Bayne to win the Nationwide Series stop at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday night.
Elliott had a strong car all day long for JR Motorsports, qualifying third and leading the most laps during the race. Bayne tried to chase him down on fresh tires in the final laps, but ran out of time.
It was Elliott’s third victory of the year following wins at Darlington and Texas.
Kyle Larson was third, followed by Kasey Kahne and Ty Dillon to round out the top five.
Brian Scott, who started on the pole, finished sixth and earned $100,000 in the second event of the four-race “Dash 4 Cash” bonus program.
Rain Saturday leads to a Sunday Indycar doubleheader
TORONTO – IndyCar’s weekend doubleheader will be crammed into one day because Saturday’s race was called because of rain.
IndyCar has scheduled two, 65-lap races for Sunday. The first one will have a rolling start at 8:30 a.m., and the second one is set for a standing start at 2:15 p.m. The order for the second race is set by points as of Saturday. Both races will be telecast on NBC Sports.
Rosberg uses home-field advantage to take the pole
HOCKENHEIM, Germany – Formula One championship leader Nico Rosberg claimed pole position for the German Grand Prix, as Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton crashed out in Saturday’s qualifying session.
Rosberg completed the fastest lap on the Hockenheimring in 1 minute, 16.540 seconds for the weekend’s fastest time in the third part of the session.
Williams’ Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa were second and third, respectively, followed by McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel.

Pace tracks down Diaz to share lead through 54 holes
SYLVANIA, Ohio – South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace, seeking a breakthrough win in the U.S., shot a 3-under 68 on Saturday to grab a share of the lead with Laura Diaz in the Marathon Classic.
Pace, an eight-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, bounced back from bogeys at holes 11 and 12 to join Diaz at 11-under 202.
Diaz, the leader after each of the first two rounds, nearly holed her drive on the short par-4 ninth before settling for an eagle.

Padres send Street up the street to the L.A. Angels
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Los Angeles Angels acquired All-Star closer Huston Street and prospect Trevor Gott from the San Diego Padres for minor leaguers Taylor Lindsey, R.J. Alvarez, Jose Rondon and Elliot Morris in a six-player trade Friday night.
The 30-year-old Street (1-0) has 24 saves in 25 opportunities and a 1.09 earned-run average in 33 games this season.
In 10 major league seasons with Oakland (2005-08), Colorado (2009-11) and San Diego (2012-14), Street is 35-27 with 258 saves and a 2.87 ERA. He has converted 109 of his last 117 save chances, the best mark in the majors in that span.
Street is fifth on the active list in saves and 31st overall.

All-Star game a slamming success with overtime finish
PHOENIX – Shoni Schimmel scored an All-Star game record 29 points and had eight assists, as the East pulled out a 125-124 victory Saturday over the West in the first WNBA All-Star Game to go into overtime.
Tamika Catchings, an All-Star for a record-tying ninth time, made a layup with six seconds to go to give the East the lead and then knocked the ball away from Skylar Diggins on the defensive end to seal the victory.
Diggins finished with 27 points and seven assists, leading a furious West rally to force overtime. She lost the ball on the baseline in the final seconds.
