The future looks bright for the Bayfield High School boys basketball team.

Bayfield Middle School sent a team of seventh and eighth graders to a tournament Saturday in Colorado Springs, and Hayden Farmer, Turner Kennedy, Matt McSweeney, Chance O’Connell, Keegan Owens and Keyon Prior went 3-0 in the seventh/eighth-grade division.

They beat the Team Chrome seventh-grade club 49-22 in their opener, led by 16 points from Kennedy.

Farmer scored 11 points, while Prior had 10 points and seven steals.

Owens had a team-high 11 rebounds.

Prior paced the attack in the second game with 30 points in a 51-29 win over Team Rise.

Kennedy added 11 points, and Farmer nearly picked up a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Bayfield Middle School trailed the Lancers’ club team 7-2 early in the third game beore jumping out to a 21-10 lead at halftime and winning 40-18.

Prior had 14 points and six steals.

Farmer hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Kennedy scored 10 points and made five steals.

McSweeney tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.

Ignacio Middle School ‘Playing for Gold’

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the Ignacio Middle School volleyball team is “Playing for Gold,” the color used to represent childhood cancer awareness, at its 4 p.m. Tuesday home game.

The team will donate all proceeds from the game to a childhood cancer charity in addition to hosting a bake sale and craft sale to raise funds.

There’s still a chance to learn the ultimate game

Durango Parks and Recreation’s Ultimate Frisbee Camp, which began Sept. 8, will continue through Oct. 20 for grades six through 12.
