The Durango running community has one more chance to celebrate former Durango High School coach Ron Keller on the heels of his induction into the Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame.

CJ’s Diner, located at 810 East College Drive, is hosting an open house to honor Keller from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Keller is the first coach from DHS ever to be inducted into the CHSAA Hall of Fame; he was enshrined Saturday night in Denver.

Diggin’ It dives in for another year

The annual Diggin’ It In Durango youth volleyball tournament, hosted by the Four Corners Volleyball Club, is this weekend in Durango and Ignacio.

The United States Amateur Volleyball-sanctioned event will take place Saturday and Sunday. There will be games at Durango High School, Escalante Middle School, Miller Middle School, the Fort Lewis College Student Life Center and Whalen Gymnasium in Durango. There also will be games for the first time at the Ignacio Elementary School and the Ignacio Middle School.

This year’s tournament will begin with the FLC Volleyball ID Camp from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Whalen Gym on the FLC campus.

Early bird catches the cheaper league rates

The early bird catches the softball.

Or soccer ball, if you prefer.

Early-bird registration for the Durango Parks and Recreation soccer leagues is Friday. The cost is $200 per team, but after Friday, the team fees will jump to $240. The deadline to enter is April 12.

The tentative start date is April 21.

There will be the usual coed and men’s divisions offered, and new this year there will be a coed 35-and-over division.

For softball, early-bird registration is $515, and after April 12, the team fee will be $555. The deadline to enter is April 26.

The start date is the week of May 12.

Registration now is open for the Dave Nelson Durango Open on May 17 and the men’s recreational tournament Aug. 16-17, as well.

Come one, come all for drop-in tennis

Durango Parks and Recreation is offering drop-in tennis at 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, after the Durango High School girls tennis team leaves the practice courts.

After the DHS spring season ends, the times will be moved up to 5:30 p.m.

On Saturdays, play will start at 9 a.m.

Ross Memorial tournament enters its 19th season

The 19th annual Kirk & Colt Ross Memorial Basketball Tournament will take place April 10-12 in Pagosa Springs.

There will be three divisions: open, 6-feet and under and 35 and over. College competition is expected.

There will be a slam-dunk contest and a 3-point contest, as well.

The cost to enter is $3 for adults and $2 for students per day. All proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund to benefit local youth.

The games will be played at middle schools from 6 to 10 p.m. April 10, at middle schools from 2 to 10 p.m. April 11 and at the high school from 2 to 10 p.m. April 11 and middle schools from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 12 and at the high school from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 12.

From March Madness to Spring Fever

Navajo Prep will hold the Spring Fever youth basketball tournament April 11-13 at the high school gymnasium in Farmington.

There will be an 8-and-under coed division and 13-and-under boys and girls divisions.

The entry fee is $120 per team, and each tournament team has a 10-player roster.

There will be an eight-team bracket, double elimination and a winner-take-all championship game. There will be awards for first through third place.
