One of the top collegiate volleyball coaches in the country is coming to Bayfield.

Tom Hilbert, the head coach at Colorado State University, will serve as a coach, instructor and teacher at the Bayfield High School volleyball camp June 5-6 at the BHS gymnasium.

The camp will cost $100 per camper, and only advanced registrants can attend the camp. No walk-ins will be accepted.

Check in will start at 8:30 a.m. June 5, ending at 5:30 p.m. that day, and will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 6.

Volleybash for Bayfield and Piedra Vista high schools

Grab a partner for the Volleybash Grass Doubles tournament hosted jointly by Bayfield High School and Piedra Vista High School on June 7-8 in Bayfield.

The junior girls, featuring 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and-under, and the women’s intermediate and advanced tournaments will take place June 7 at Wolverine Country Stadium.

The adult/juniors co-ed advanced and intermediate tournaments are June 8 at Joe Stephenson Park in Bayfield.

Each team costs $50 per entry and will play four guranteed games between pool play and a single-elimination tournament.

Team check-in will start at 7:30 a.m. both days, and pool play will begin at 8:30 a.m.

All proceeds will benefit the BHS and Piedra Vista volleyball programs.

Summer track camp runs through DHS, parks and rec

Durango Parks and Recreation and the Durango High School track and field team are hosting the first annual elementary and middle school track camp.

It will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 9-11 and June 16-18 at Durango High School.

Students in first through eighth grade are welcome.

DHS track and field athletes and coaches will host the camp.

5K run at FLC will benefit the Durango Derailers

The Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center is sponsoring a 5K benefitting the Durango Derailers Cycling Club on June 13 at Fort Lewis College.

The Derailers will use the proceeds for its assistance fund, which helps patients and their families cope with the burden of traveling to Children’s Hospital in Denver. The fund helped 362 families in 2013.

Runners can pre-register online at www.swcahec.org or register before 9:30 a.m. at Crofton Hall on the FLC campus the morning of the run.

It will cost $25, which will go up to $30 after Sunday.

Fifth annual FLC football fundraiser June 21 in Denver

The fifth annual Fort Lewis College Football Alumni Golf Tournament will be June 21 at Raccoon Creek Golf Club Course in Denver.

The golf scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m..

Individual packages begin as low as $125. Proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will go toward scholarships and the Skyhawks’ football operating budget to help assist in recruiting, travel, video technology, etc.
