Durango High School and Montezuma-Cortez High School are trying to start a football rivalry.

For its alumni.

Durango and Montezuma-Cortez will play a full-contact alumni game July 18, and players are needed – the first 40 players on each roster will get to play.

Equipment will be supplied.

There also will be a Dolores vs. Mancos alumni game.

The games will be played at 4:30 and 7 p.m. July 19 at Montezuma-Cortez Junior High School.

Durango’s pickleball tourney will be held July 19-20

The Durango leg of the Alpine Bank Western Slope Pickleball Tournament Series, hosted by Durango Parks and Recreation, is open for registration.

The deadline to enter is July 11.

In between the Delta and Glenwood Springs (Aug. 9-10) legs, the Durango tournament will be held July 19-20 at the Durango Community Recreation Center. The men’s and women’s doubles will be played July 19 and the mixed doubles July 20.

No registrations will be accepted the day of the event.

Divisions and skill levels include: competitive men’s doubles, mixed doubles and women’s doubles; recreational men’s doubles, mixed doubles and women’s doubles.

The entry fees are $25 per person for the first division and $10 for the second division.

Bocce ball is back every Wednesday at Buckley Park

Bocce ball courts will be set up every Wednesday evening at Buckley Park from June 25 through Aug. 13.

Play will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Buckley Park.

Community participants of all ages are invited to play as individuals or teams in the friendly pick-up matches played on regulation-size bocce courts.

Pedal, run and swim the 11th Durango Triathlon

Registration for the 11th annual Durango Parks and Recreation Triathlon now is open.

The event will be held at 8 a.m. Aug. 2.

Registration is available at the Durango Community Recreation Center or online at www.active.com.

The cost is $45 for individuals and $90 for a team.

No race-day registrations will be accepted.

The race will begin and end at the rec center. The course includes a 500-yard swim in the pool, a 13-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run.

Durango’s triathlon is a practical race for the beginner triathlete or seasoned veteran.

Chip timing will be used for the 11th competition.
