A picture taken today in the same location, would show Buckley Park on the left as you look south down Main Avenue. The “Good Year Service Station” sign is painted on the side of the building that was, until recently, the Model Tire Store on the corner of 12th and Main. The county courthouse clock tower is visible through the girders of the Ferris Wheel. This fair and carnival from the 1920s were likely part of either the Fourth of July celebration or the county fair. (The Fiesta did not start until 1935.) Pictures accompanying this one show a parade traveling down Main Avenue heading south. Today, the parades tend to always travel north on Main, often ending at Buckley Park.

Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org
