On St. Patrick’s Day in 1924, this group of high school women prepared a festive meal for the Durango School Board, the superintendent of schools, and the high school principal. Under the guidance of domestic science instructor Ms. Spencer, they crafted a menu featuring mostly green dishes, including green cherry garnish, potatoes, green peas, apple salad, green olives and mint sherbet. Pictured in front of Durango High School are Leona Snyder, Klea Evans, Verna Densmore, Emma Broyles, Isabella Campbell, Jessie Mason, Hattie Lewis, Elizabeth Davis and Louise Becker. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum (Catalog Number: 07.34.1 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
