After six weeks of racing, the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks can call themselves runners-up in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference.

Although road cycling coach Ian Burnett thinks higher of FLC.

“It’s tough, because weather kept the FLC team from travelling to the CU weekend, otherwise we would have won the conference championship,” Burnett said in a news release to The Durango Herald.

Now, they’re eager to learn their standing on a larger scale.

Burnett and FLC cycling announced its roster Friday for the USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals on May 2-5 in Richmond, Va.

“Picking a nationals team out of so many deserving riders is one of the toughest parts of the job, but I think we did a great job of picking riders best suited to the courses while also working well as a team,” said Burnett, a former FLC cyclist. “If things come together well for us, we have a really good shot at the team title.”

FLC cycling has won 20 national championships.

The roster: Natan Cavalca, Maddie Chaves, Ivie Crawford, Griffin Easter, Sydney Edmonson, Sofia Gomez Villafane, Dean Haas, Jenna MacPherson, Renan Maia, Zack Noonan and Max Thilen.
