Carlson, 43, has been serving as interim administrator since that time. Carlson has been town clerk since June 2008.

Monday night’s council vote was unanimous.

“I am very grateful to have the trust and confidence of the Town Board and staff, and am looking forward to the challenges ahead,” Carlson said. “I also welcome and encourage observations and comments from the public, as this is how we will continue to improve our services.”

Carlson said that in keeping with the spirit of hiring and promoting from within, he will train the deputy clerk, Anita Steck, to assume clerk duties.

And Carlson said he also will shift many treasurer duties to existing part-time staff member Claudia Moe. These transitions will take place gradually during the next three months.

Carlson pointed out that he also will be the town’s finance director, retaining budgeting, financial statements, grants accounting and financial auditing responsibilities.

His salary is $68,000 a year.
