But here is what I find more atrocious: The sculpture cost $25,000. Instead, the city could have given $25,000 to Boys & Girls Club, or $25,000 to Annie’s Orphans, or $25,000 to American Red Cross, or $25,000 to keep open a preschool program that was cut this year, or $25,000 to Manna Soup Kitchen, or $25,000 to the Adaptive Sports Association, or $25,000 to veterans programs (and the list could go on and on), or at least $25,000 to a local artist who would put the money back into our own community.
I guess I’m just not sophisticated enough to enjoy this statement piece. I just think it is a sad commentary on Durango’s priorities.
