School starts in Bayfield on Tuesday, Aug. 18, while Ignacio kids get to savor one more week of summer break. Classes in Ignacio start Monday, Aug. 24.

Bayfield Elementary will host it annual open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday evening. Students and parents are welcome to come in, meet their teachers and see their classroom, and drop off school supplies. Entrance is through the BES gym. Volunteers in the gym will have information about bus routes, the Bayfield Family Center, Parent Teacher Student Association, and other activities.

In a letter to parents, Bayfield Superintendent Troy Zabel highlighted improvements the district has made since district voters approved a bond issue extension in 2012.

They included the completion of a performing arts center, a new baseball field, and an auxiliary gym.

All schools have had new security entrances installed, as well as digital signs.

The Ignacio School District also is completing a bond issue approved by voters that constructed a new middle school and renovated the elementary school. Additions and renovations also have been made at Ignacio High School, featuring a new auditorium. There will be a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. Saturday at IHS, along with tours of the new facility. All members of the community are welcome.
