Andersson did, however, reinforce one of the great attributes of the current political climate: motivated reasoning, demonstrated by selective outrage. It’s OK if the Kochs or Sherman Adelson do it, but it’s not OK if Tom Steyer or Michael Bloomberg do it. Yes, it is acceptable for Karl Rove to purposely run over a puppy, but no way is it acceptable for George Clooney to purposefully run over a puppy. Some will say that running over puppies is not acceptable regardless of who is driving, but we might want to check with the Supreme Court on that.

In truth, we should be grateful to the “fat cat billionaires” from both sides of the political spectrum for helping us make our civic decisions, and there is a way to demonstrate our gratitude. The next election cycle is only two years away, and the money will be flowing again. Mailboxes will be full. Every American should save every piece of political mail. The day after the election, pack that mail in a USPS flat-rate mailer and send it to Chief Justice John Roberts with the return address: Citizens United Against Partisan Wingnuttery and Judicial Nitwittery, Everywhere, USA.
