The Durango High School football team scored on its first possession on Saturday against Palisade. The Demons didn’t reach the end zone again, but they kept the Bulldogs from scoring all game to win the contest, 7-0, and lock up the 3A League 3 title in the process.

“We worked for it,” said DHS senior A.J. Folk. “It was a battle all through the game.”

The league title was Durango’s third in a row and first in the 3A League 3, which Palisade had won the last five years.

“We just beat the five-time defending league champs, and they played like it,” said DHS head coach Todd Casebier. “Fortunately, we made a couple more plays today.”

The Durango High School cross-country teams both ran in the 4A state meet on Saturday in Colorado Springs. The girls finished third as a team while the boys finished seventh.

The top DHS finishers were Willow Lott (19th, 19:32) and Luke Swenk (21st, 16:30).
