A rock climber was rescued by helicopter Friday after falling 16 feet from a climbing area near Tamarron resort.

The accident was reported at 11:38 a.m. at the Golf Wall climbing area, said Scot Davis with Durango Fire Protection District.

According to initial reports, people around him at the time attempted CPR.

The life-saving efforts apparently worked, because rescue members used a backcountry gurney to remove the man from the area to a location where a Flight for Life helicopter could take him to a hospital.

The man’s identity was unavailable.

Davis was unsure where the man was taken.
