The county commissioners approved naming the road in his honor Tuesday. Newton died on March 31 last year.

There also will be a memorial dedication to Newton today at noon between the SunUte Community Center and the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy. The ceremony will include an invocation by Eddie Box, Jr. a welcome from Elaine Newton, the mother of Jimmy Newton, Jr., remarks by tribal council, a performance by Yellow Jacket Drum Group, and balloon release.
