Improvements to the Santa Rita intake, the section of river immediately upstream of Whitewater Park, shifted the flow left towards the water intake structure and increased the gradient of the rapid in that area.

River users who are not familiar with the current river dynamics at the Santa Rita intake are recommended to stop upstream, portage on river left and scout the area. Multiple enhanced eddies and an improved trail for public use are located above the rapid.

Beginners and inexperienced river users should enjoy the section of river under guidance of a professional rafting or kayaking outfitter.

All river users should be equipped with Type III or Type V Coast-Guard-approved flotation devices, a helmet and proper cold-water clothing, such as dry-suits, wet-suits and insulated layers.

The section of river at the Santa Rita intake is not recommended for inner tubes or other single-chamber inflatables.
