While recently reading Robert Mueller’s obituary, I was reminded of his tenure as special prosecutor investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. He issued a report detailing the coordinated efforts of the Trump campaign with Russian hackers who were sanctioned by Putin’s government. Why Putin wanted Trump to win the election became evident, in my view, when we learned that Trump became Putin’s puppet.
Mueller’s report declined to indict Trump while he was a sitting president, though several of Trump’s associates were indicted and convicted of treasonous behavior. The report did not exonerate Trump. Mueller did not have the courage to indict him. I remember seeing a recording of Trump saying, “Russia, if you are listening ….” I also remember seeing a photo of Michael Flynn, one of the associates who was convicted, sitting next to Putin at a dinner in Moscow.
Trump should never have been allowed to be president. He committed treason by encouraging Russian interference in U.S. elections, which is strictly forbidden. The cowards of the Republican Party were looking for power over the rule of law. Nothing has changed in the last decade except the total disregard of the Constitution. Shame.
It is not too late to read Robert Mueller’s report without redactions and to indict, convict, and jail all the people involved, including the illegitimate president accused of treason. I am hoping that the new attorney general will see to it. I’m not holding my breath, as I think a new lackey will be appointed to lead the so-called Justice Department.
