Crews working to replace a broken power pole around mile marker 18 on Colorado Highway 140 estimate power will be out until 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday for almost 1,000 La Plata Electric Association customers in southwest La Plata County.

Power was lost early Sunday morning when the pole broke.

According to La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Steve Reiter, Highway 140 has been closed to traffic at times, and as of early afternoon Sunday, traffic was flowing slowly with one lane of alternating traffic.

A Tweet issued at 2:20 p.m. Sunday from crews in the field said work was ongoing to transfer electric distribution lines, and estimated power would be back up in three to four hours.

In an earlier Tweet, La Plata Electric Association reported the outage, which is affecting some 980 customers in the Dryside in southwest La Plata County.

Efforts to contact La Plata Electric Co. on Sunday have been unsuccessful.
