The trail was closed because of safety hazards caused by a collapsed trail corridor and cut-back produced by spring flooding and high water events due to an accelerated melting of the unusually deep winter snowpack. The temporary trail closure was necessary to provide public safety, and for the safety of work crews as they completed repairs to the damaged section of trail.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we worked to restore this trail so that people could have a safe and enjoyable wilderness experience,” said Columbine Recreation Staff Officer Jed Botsford.
