The destructive power of avalanches and why and how they happen will be discussed, and participants can ask questions. This program is organized through the local nonprofit Friends of the San Juans and will feature guest speaker John Strand, a board member.

The Board of Trustees of the Pine River Library will hold its annual budget hearing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The board and Library Director Shelley Walchak report that the library will take a 21.9 percent cut in funding this year. The public is invited to view and comment on the proposed 2017 budget. The meeting will be held in the library’s Community Room.
